The W.T. Foreman Prairie House Foundation
Our intention is to present the history of the Duncan area to the general public through our historic home and it's collections and gardens. We wish to preserve, promote, and be good stewards of this property for the benefit of the people of Duncan, Stephens County, all of Oklahoma, and the United States of America. We wish to maintain the house and grounds so that others may see how a well-to-do family in early-day Oklahoma lived during the 1920 and 1940 time period.
After numerous fundraisers, mail outs, and private donations, we applied for and were granted 501c3 not-for-profit status by the IRS on September 4 of 2004 effective January 4, 2002. That established the Prairie House as an official tax-deductible, not-for-profit corporation that could apply for and receive grants. We were fortunate to receive consideration from a number of Oklahoma Foundations who saw fit to help preserve the prairie style residence. (See our list of grant providers)
Our proposed use is to have the house open to the public for their pleasure. We offer tours, appointments and special events. We hope to teach youngsters about early Oklahoma lifestyles and to make the comfortably appointed home a landmark for such things as receptions, small weddings, photographic opportunities, family parties, etc.
Our current objective is to raise a strongly funded endowment through which our foundation can guarantee the future of the house and its operations. Our friends and acquaintances are asked to give even a small amount in order to assure the home’s future as a landmark. In addition to having this lovely old home available for community use, we hope that it will broaden our community’s tourism venues.
